The Science Behind Pepcare Lab
We believe you should understand exactly what is in your skincare and why. This page explains the key ingredients in every Pepcare Lab formula - what they are, what they do cosmetically, and how we use them.
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids - the building blocks of proteins. They occur naturally in the body and are widely used in cosmetic formulations because of their ability to interact with skin at a functional level.
In skincare, different peptide types are used for different cosmetic purposes: some support the appearance of firmness and elasticity, some assist with skin hydration, some help support the skin barrier. They are generally well-tolerated, suitable for sensitive skin, and compatible with most other skincare ingredients.
GHK-Cu - Copper Tripeptide-1
GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper complex found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. It was first isolated in the early 1970s and has since been the subject of extensive cosmetic and biological research.
In cosmetic formulations, GHK-Cu is used for its ability to:
- Support the appearance of skin firmness and elasticity
- Improve the appearance of skin texture and clarity
- Assist with skin barrier function and moisture retention
- Support the appearance of a healthy, well-conditioned scalp
GHK-Cu has a strong safety profile and is well-established in cosmetic use globally. Pepcare Lab uses a stabilised concentration of GHK-Cu across the entire range - formulated for daily use at cosmetically active levels.

The Skin Barrier
The skin barrier - also called the stratum corneum - is the outermost layer of skin. It acts as the body's primary shield against environmental stressors, pollutants, and moisture loss.
A compromised barrier can lead to the appearance of dryness, sensitivity, uneven texture, and accelerated visible ageing. Supporting the barrier is one of the most effective things you can do for long-term skin condition.
Every Pepcare Lab formula is designed with the barrier in mind. CREAM 01 in particular contains ceramide-supporting lipids and humectants specifically chosen to reinforce the barrier alongside GHK-Cu.
The Scalp as Skin
The scalp is skin - but it is often treated as a completely separate category in personal care. Most people have a far more considered facial skincare routine than they have a scalp routine.
The scalp has the same barrier structure as facial skin, the same peptide receptors, and the same response to well-formulated cosmetic actives. SCALP 01 was designed to bring peptide-led care to the scalp with the same rigour we apply to the face.
